Mary Denver

Dr. Mary C. Denver, Chief of Staff

-Dr. Mary Denver started working at BRAH in September of 2007, becoming full time in May 2016 and became our Chief of Staff in Oct 2016 when Dr. Kilby retired.

-Her background as a zoo veterinarian brings experience with a wide range of animals to the practice.  She handles all of our exotic patients and pocket pets (Birds, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, rabbits, snakes, rats, sugar gliders, etc.).

-Dr. Denver resides in the Rising Sun area with her husband John, two children, three dogs and three cats.

-She is a co-leader of her daughter's Girl Scout troop.  Basin Run always has Girl Scout cookies from mid February to mid April.

-Her main hobby outside of work is driving her children around to their activities, but she likes to hike and kayak when she has time.


-Graduated from New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell

-Specializes in Exotics and Pocket Pets

Rhonda Smetana

Dr. Rhonda L. Smetana, Associate Veterinarian

-Dr. Rhonda Smetana has been with BRAH since July of 1999, shortly after graduating from Virginia Tech.

-She has a special interest in feline medicine and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in veterinary forensics.

-Dr. Smetana shares her Bel Air home with her husband Taylor and six cats.


-Graduated from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine

-Specializes in Feline Medicine and Veterinary Forensic Medicine

Gloria Kilby

Dr. Gloria Kilby, Relief Veterinarian

-Dr. Kilby open Basin Run Animal Hospital in 1981, she semi-retired in Oct of 2016.

-She shares her home with her husband Rick, 1 cat and a chocolate lab.  She raised Scottish Terriers for many years, but is not raising any right now.

-Dr. Kilby enjoys the outdoors and working in her garden, aerobics, and zumba.  Her spare time is spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.  She enjoys traveling.  Her favorite vacation destinations are Disney World and New Zealand!


-Graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine

-Specializes in Scottish Terriers

Ashley Willis

Practice Manager- Ashley

-Ashley has been with us since June of 2004.  She received a nursing degree at Cecil College.

-Ashley currently resides in North East with her husband Alan and son Matthew.  

-Ashley enjoys horseback riding, scrapbooking and walking her dogs. 

-You will see Ashley out and about in the community at various events and booths.

Receptionist- Jane

-Jane moved to Maryland in 1994 and started working at BRAH, after a brief leave she returned in 2011.

-She resides in Conowingo with her husband Terry.

-Her greatest joy is spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.



Receptionist- Courtney

-Courtney joined the BRAH staff in October of 2009.  She has been a great addition to our reception staff.

-Courtney resides in Rising Sun and has two small children and five dogs- 3 Chihuahuas, 1 Cocker Spaniel, and 1 Pug.

-On the weekends she enjoys spending the day at the park with her children and going on beach trips.

Receptionist- Christine

-Christine joined the BRAH staff in February 2017 and has been a wonderful addition to our receptionist staff.

-She plans to go to school to obtain her veterinary technician license

-In her free time, Christine enjoys writing, singing, playing her guitar and spending time with her husband and two dogs.

Technician- Jessica

-Jessica joined the BRAH staff in July of 2009.

-She is looking to become a registered vet tech.

-She enjoys spending time with her husband and son.  She loves being outdoors and riding horses.

-She spends her time with her horses- Penny a QH and Little Bit a TWH and her cats- Belle, Tequila and Sparrow.

Registered Technician- Karen

-Karen joined our team in January of 2013.  She has been in the field for 5 years now, with experience in emergency medicine as well.  A graduate of the only AVMA accredited program in Maryland, CCBC Veterinary Technology program; she passed the VTNE and became licensed in the summer of 2015.  She is looking into making volunteer trips often with organizations such as World Vet.

-She has two resuce cats, Sadie and Arnold.  In her free time you can find her running the local trails or roads, painting or hanging out with friends and family.

Technician- Rachael

-Rachael joined the BRAH family in April of 2016.  

-In 2012 she followed her love of animals and attended Cecil College's Vet Assistant program.  She has worked her way up the ranks and is an accomplished Vet Tech.

-She is currently focusing on raising her two teenage children, but once she has an empty nest she plans to attend CCBC and pursue becoming a registered technician.

-Rachael enjoys spending time at the beach, going kayaking and hanging out with friends and family.

Technician- Sarah

-Sarah joined the team at BRAH in October of 2014.  She has 4 years of experience in the veterinary field and also worked as a zoo keeper

-She resides in Port Deposit with her husband and two children

-In her spare time you will find Sarah enjoying the outdoors or reading


-Fiona, a Jack Russel

-Cats- Kenobi, Riddick, Callie and Snarf

-Rabbits- Fezzik, Seven, Atila the Bun and Buddy

-Zhu Zhu- Guinea Pig, Chickens and Ducks

Receptionist/Technician- Kerry

-Kerry began working for Basin Run in 2002.  After being away for 3 years to start a family, she returned in 2014.

-Kerry graduated from Western Maryland College in 2000 with a BA in Sociology.  At WMC she was a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and team captain of both the Field Hockey and Track & Field teams.  She also achieved All American status as a sprinter, hurdler and jumper.

-Kerry resides in Rising Sun with her husband of 15 years, 2 daughters, a Collie named "Kipton" and a Bloodhound named "Maple".

-Kerry enjoys spending time with her family, reading, swimming and church activities.

Registered Technician- Ashley

-Ashley joined our team in April of 2016 and brings over 2 years of experience.

-Ashley graduated from Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh in March of 2015 and passed the VTNE in December of 2015.

-Ashley enjoys spending time with her family and boyfriend.  In her spare time she enjoys knitting, watching movies, puzzles, fishing and crabbing.

Assistant- Elizabeth

-Liz joined the staff of BRAH in September of 2012 after volunteering for several months.

-Liz works for us when she is home from college.  She is in the process of applying for vet school.



Assistant- Nicole

-Nikki joined the BRAH staff in May of 2015.

-Nikki works for us when she is home from college.  She is in the process of applying for vet school.



Kennel Assistant- Kendyl

-Kendyl joined the staff of BRAH in February of 2016.  She attends Rising Sun High School and plans to purse Veterinary medicine.

-Kendyl enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Office Assistant- Kathie

-Kathie has been with us since July of 1989.  She lives in Colora with her husband Jim.  Kathie loves traveling, antiquing and spending time with her family!



Inventory- Jennifer

-Jennifer works in the back office keeping track of our inventory.  She joined our staff in March of 2011.

-She and her husband are empty-nesters (no more children living at home) and are enjoying every minute of it.  

-Jennifer enjoys horseback riding, knitting, weaving and traveling.

-Denise is here Wednesday - Saturday.
